Stories about bill collectors

From time to time our office receives letters or stories from individuals that you might be interested in reading about. These letters might be about a consumer's experience with a bill collector. A story might be about unwanted collection calls from a bill collector and what a consumer did in response to these calls. In some cases a visitor to our website might want to share a success story about settling a debt and saving thousands of dollars doing so. If you successfully sued a bill collector you might want to share your story with us.

Last week I was receiving calls at my workplace from a very mean-spirited collector at a large collection agency in Toronto. The collector said that if I did not pay them $30,000 today in connection with an outstanding loan in excess of $35,000 that she was going to speak to the payroll department where I work.  Then I called Mark Silverthorn’s law office.  Mark Silverthorn advised me that the collector was engaging in conduct that was illegal under the Ontario Collection Agencies Act.  I made arrangements for Mark Silverthorn to contact the collection agency on my behalf.  That same day Mark Silverthorn contacted the collection agency advising them that all future communications from their agency regarding my account were to be made directly to his office.  I have not heard from that collection agency since the day I first spoke to Mark Silverthorn.
