Mark Silverthorn in the media
(14:17 min)
On this program host Peter Silverman speaks to Mark about Mark's efforts to successfully lobby the Ontario Government to enforce the current law prohibiting collection agencies from calling consumers on their cell phones to demand payment of a debt. One of the underlying these on this show is that the onus is on a consumer to act to protect themself from collection agencies that are breaking the law.
During this radio show Mark explains why collection agencies, collectively across Canada, sue few consumer accounts. Host Peter Silverman and Mark discuss the business model under which collection agencies operate. Mark also raises his concerns that the Ontario Government may be failing to enforce subsection 22(b) of the Ontario Collection Agencies Act that prohibits collection agencies from calling consumers on a consumer's cell phone to demand payment of a debt in circumstances where the cell phone user incurs an expense.
