About Mark Silverthorn
Mark Silverthorn has 12 years of experience as a former collection lawyer and collection industry insider. Today his two law practices: one in Kitchener, Ontario and one in Buffalo, New York focus on assisting consumers in their dealings with collection agencies and creditors.
Mark Silverthorn has considerable knowledge of the collection industry from his work on behalf of collection agencies operating across Canada and the United States. Between 1994 and 2006 Mark Silverthorn spent approximately 15,000 hours assisting collection agencies recover tens of millions of dollars from Canadian residents. Today Mark Silverthorn is using his experience to help consumers in their dealings with collection agencies.
Mark Silverthorn obtained his law degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1982 and he was called to the Ontario bar in 1985. In the mid-1980s he served as a ministerial aide to Ontario Attorney-General Roy McMurtry. He subsequently worked as a lobbyist and the senior executive of a national trade association. In the early 1990s he practiced criminal law in Toronto. In 1997 Mark Silverthorn was called to the bar in New York State.
In 2008 Mark Silverthorn wrote an e-book, A How-to Guide for Dealing with Collection Agencies in Canada . Today Mark practises law under the firm name of Mark Anthony Silverthorn Law Offices Professional Corporation. In January of 2010 Mark's new book The Wolf At The Door: What To Do When Collection Agencies Come Calling was in bookstores across Canada. This book was published by Canadian publisher McClelland & Stewart.
Mark has been a guest on a number of television programs to discuss collection agencies and debt relief for onsumers, including CityTV's Breakfast Television. In addition, Mark has been a guest on numerous radio shows across Canada and he is a regular guest on The Peter Silverman Show on CFRB 1010 Talk Radio. Mark has been quoted in major Canadian newspapers including The Globe & Mail and the Toronto Star.
Mark has two daughters, Teresa and Veronica.
